General anesthesia requirements
When a patient will have general anesthesia administered as part of their surgical treatment, it is very important that the specific pre-appointment instructions below are followed.
Availability
Please make sure you are available from 6am – 1pm on the day of your child’s surgery. You will be given an appointment time but may be called in early.
Fasting required
The patient must fast (NO food or drink) for 8 hours prior to their surgery appointment where general anesthesia will be administered. It is very important to follow this rule, or the appointment will be cancelled. If your child accidentally eats or drinks on the day of surgery, let us know ASAP.
Check-in time
Check-in time is 1-hour prior to your appointment time. It is very important that the patient and their parent/legal guardian arrive no later than 1-hour prior to your appointment time so the team can properly prepare your child for treatment under general anesthesia.
Parent or legal guardian must accompany patient
On the day of surgery, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the patient to the dental office. This person should remain in the office during the entire treatment. If there are other children coming to the appointment, a second adult needs to be present.
Attire
Make sure your child is dressed in comfortable, loose clothing. An IV and Monitors will be placed on the ankle/legs and the area will need to be accessible.

Requisitos para la anestesia general
Cuando se vaya a administrar anestesia general a un paciente como parte de su tratamiento quirúrgico, es muy importante que se sigan las instrucciones específicas previas a la cita que se indican a continuación.
Disponibilidad
Por favor, asegúrese de estar disponible de 6am – 1pm el día de la cirugía de su hijo/a. Se le dará una cita, pero es posible que le llamen antes.
Se requiere ayuno
El paciente debe ayunar (NO comer ni beber) durante 8 horas antes de su cita quirúrgica en la que se le administrará anestesia general. Es muy importante seguir esta regla, o la cita será cancelada. Si su hijo/a come o bebe accidentalmente el día de la cirugía, infórmenos lo antes posible.
Hora de llegada
La hora de llegada es 1 hora antes de la cita. Es muy importante que el paciente y sus padres/tutores legales lleguen como mínimo 1 hora antes de la cita para que el equipo pueda preparar adecuadamente a su hijo/a para el tratamiento con anestesia general.
Uno de los padres o tutor legal debe acompañar al paciente
El día de la cirugía, uno de los padres o tutor legal debe acompañar al paciente a la oficina dental. Esta persona debe permanecer en la oficina durante todo el tratamiento. Si asisten otros niños a la cita, se requiere la presencia de un segundo adulto.
Vestimenta
Asegúrese de que su hijo/a esté vestido con ropa cómoda y holgada. Se le colocará una vía intravenosa y monitores en el tobillo/piernas y la zona deberá ser accesible.
