During the next year, the Willamette Dental Group will match all employee contributions to the challenge fund, and then President and CEO Dr. Eugene Skourtes will match the combined total.
Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife, Penny, launched the Knight Cancer Challenge in September 2013 . They pledged $500 million to OHSU’s Knight Cancer Institute if OHSU raises another $500 million by February 2016.
Taking into account Skourtes’ and Knight’s matching contributions, that means every contribution by an employee of the Willamette Dental Group will be leveraged 8-to-1 by the conclusion of the challenge.
Skourtes sits on the OHSU Foundation Board of Trustees, and has been a major contributor to many of the prestigious institution’s efforts, including the new OHSU School of Dentistry on the South Waterfront in Portland.
“Cancer has a devastating impact on everyone, including our families and our friends,” Skourtes said. “Supporting OHSU’s Knight Cancer Challenge is worthy of making this investment to help cure this disease.”
